Ashworth Oak Seed, SOLD OUT FOR 2024

These seed come from a grafted tree grown here at our farm. This tree was collected by Fred Ashworth. Bill McKintly from St Lawrence Nursery tells the story of Fred rescuing from the road crew who were removing it from the side of the road, and how Fred replanted the tree and it survived.
I believe there is a graft of this same tree at John Hershey's plantings in Pennsylvania, as I have both grafts growing close to one another and both producing. The Hershey tree we call 'Happy Hog'. It is literally the very first choice for the local deer, they stand under the tree and wait for them to fall, they choose these acorns over the persimmons! It's very hard to ever get any seed for this tree in Pennsylvania!
Ken Asmus from Oikos nursery talks about the Ashworth tree here- https://oikostreecrops.com/products/ashworth-bur-oak-acorns/
